Khas Root- Khus Jad - Ushira - Vetiver Roots - Vetiveria Zizanioides - Ramacham

Khas Vetiver root is a perennial herb that is grown for the production of an essential oil that is used in perfumes. During the summer, Khas has cooling properties and is used to make Sherbet or flavored drinks. This herb is high in omega fatty acids, vitamins, proteins, minerals, and fibers.

Khus is high in dietary fibers, which aids digestion. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, taking Khas root decoction for a few days can help manage rheumatic pain and stiffness. Because of its anti-diabetic properties, consuming Khas churna aids in the management of diabetes by increasing insulin secretion.

Khas is also beneficial to the skin due to its antioxidant properties. The topical application of Khas oil aids in the healing of acne scars and skin marks. It also aids in the management of oily skin and the prevention of stretch marks. Khas oil can also be used as a pesticide and insect repellent. Applying Khas essential oil to the scalp and hair, according to Ayurveda, helps control hair fall and promotes hair growth. This is due to its Snigdha (oily) property, which eliminates excessive hair dryness.

It is best to avoid Khas during a cough or cold because it can cause the formation and accumulation of mucus in the respiratory passages due to its Sita (cold) property, which can make breathing difficult.

What are the advantages of Khas for rheumatoid arthritis?

  • Khas aids in the relief of rheumatoid arthritis pain (RA).
  • In Ayurveda, Rheumatoid Arthritis is known as Amavata.
  • Amavata is a disease in which the Vata dosha is vitiated and Ama (toxic remains in the body due to improper digestion) accumulates in the joints.
  • Amavata begins with a weak digestive fire, which leads to Ama accumulation.
  • This Ama is carried by Vata to various locations, but instead of being absorbed, it accumulates in the joints.
  • Due to its Deepan (appetiser) and Pachan (digestive) properties, Khas aids in the correction of digestive fire and the reduction of Ama.
  • It also has Vata balancing properties and relieves Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms such as joint pain and swelling.
